Hebrew charter school in Florida to open in August
CofCC.org News Team
Christians are banned from using public funds to open a Christian charter school, but a school district in Florida has allowed an Israeli immigrant community to use taxpayer funds for a Jewish school.
Backers of the charter school say it is meant to be a dual-language school based on a Hebrew/English curriculum. Opponents say the school also will teach religion, especially when marketed in South Florida’s Jewish and Israeli communities.
Southern California also has taxpayer financed charter schools for Hispanics that teach militant Chicano politics as well as pre-Christian meso-American religious beliefs. One school teaches Spanish, Mayan, and Mandarin, but does not teach English. Numerous states have taxpayer financed Afro-centric themed schools for blacks.
