Note: Rodney King had been arrested for the seventh time since his battle police officers after a high speed chase in 1991. The Los Angeles Times reports that he was arraigned on charges of domestic violence against his 16-year-old daughter and her mother. His most serious crime involved a conviction for hitting his estranged wife with a car and then leaving the scene in 1995.

There are reports out of California that Rodney King was apparently shot and wounded on a San Bernardino street corner late Wednesday night. King, the 42-year-old man who gained national fame when his 1991 beating by Los Angeles police was caught on videotape, called Rialto police at 11:39 p.m. to report the shooting, Sergeant Don Lewis told the Press-Enterprise.

Lewis told the paper that King had been struck in the face and arm with a shotgun. King claimed the shooting occurred at 5th Street and Meridian Avenue in San Bernardino, just east of the Rialto city line. King was then taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown. The wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, Lewis said.

Since gaining his fame, King has had several brushes with Inland police agencies, most recently a 2005 arrest on suspicion of domestic violence, the newspaper reported.
