CofCC.org News Team

A new enforcement only immigration bill, called the Save Act, could come up for a vote in the US House of Representatives. 49 Democrats and 98 Republicans have cosponsored the bill. A similar bill introduced by Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter was passed in the House, but killed by the US Senate Judiciary Committee which included John McCain, Lindsey Graham who voted for a mass amnesty bill instead.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading the fight against the bill and has refused to let the bill come up for a vote. A discharge petition of 218 signatures is needed to bring the bill to a full vote, since Pelosi is trying to kill it. So far, 185 Representatives have signed the discharge petition.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Heath Shuler, (D-N.C).
