Birmingham, AL is about 75% black and has a long history of being one of the most dangerous places in the deep south.

Now budget cuts are forcing Jefferson County, home to Birmingham, to cut funding to it’s Sheriff’s department. County sheriff Mike Hale fears that Birmingham will see an explosion of crime if the county sheriff’s department has to reduce it’s presence. He say the national guard may be needed to maintain order.

The FBI ranked Birmingham as America’s 6th most violent city in a study released in 2008.
