White House orders Shirley Sherrod to resign. Sherrod blames NAACP.
Shirley Sherrod says she pulled over to the side of the road today and submitted her resignation on her blackberry after she says she received a direct order from the White House to do so. Sherrod says she blames the NAACP. The NAACP released a weak statement mildly condemning Sherrod immediately before her call from the White House.
Sherrod is a USDA official who boasted about discriminating against whites at a NAACP function last March. (See video below.)
Black newspapers and left-wing blogs are rushing to defend Sherrod, but the fallout was enough for the White House to immediately throw her under the bus.
