That’s a double-edged sword.  MSM is dying economically because of the internet, and that’s not entirely a bad thing – way too many talking heads with nothing to add but their clamor for attention.  The real downside of the loss of a credible, independent, objective, balanced news system is people tend to seek out sites which reinforce their beliefs, whether credible or not, and do not entertain views which challenge their own.  Blind fealty to a particular dogma is not what maintaining a vital democracy is about – sheep following any shepherd are still sheep.  Applied critical thinking, challenging unchallenged assertions, making allegiance to a cause a thoughtful process – that’s what makes a citizen a citizen.

Do you think the readers of the New York Times or Washington Post, or viewers of CNN or MS-NBC are patrons because they seek DIVERSITY of opinion…???

A “vital democracy”? There is no such thing. Democracies, by their very nature, will always, without exception, destroy themselves. As soon as the people realize they control the purse strings, out of envy and greed they will plunder their betters with the sword of government. This is why the Founding Fathers of the United States hated democracy, and why they instead established a constitutional republic. Those who have faith in democracy are themselves the sheep.
