DC to pay black 9th graders $5.95 an hour to attend summer school
As many as 400 9th graders in DC will be paid $5.95 an hour to attend summer school. The money will go almost exclusively to black students with behavior problems.
Just a few days ago, Obama signed an executive order called the “African American Education Initiative.” It calls on public schools to ignore the bad behavior of black students. Now the DC public schools are going to shower the worst performing 9th graders (who will be overwhelmingly black), with free money as a reward for bad behavior and poor academic performance.
The District is paying 305 students with poor academic and behavioral records to attend summer school, The Washington Examiner has learned.
The rising ninth-graders are earning $5.25 an hour to participate in the “Summer Bridge” program, which targets students identified by D.C. Public Schools as less likely than their peers to graduate high school within four years.
The 95 students who voluntarily signed up for the summer school program will receive half of an elective credit. But to fill the 400-student session with at-risk students, DCPS reached out to the Department of Employment Services. More than 300 students flagged by DCPS and who had signed up for the Summer Youth Employment Program were told that school would be their jobs this summer.

This summer isn’t the first time the city has paid students to learn. The District allowed a Harvard University group to pay about 3,000 middle-school students up to $100 a month for good grades during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years. Grades overall didn’t improve significantly.
Brown and Ward 8 Councilman Marion Barry, who created the summer jobs program in the 1970s, said this summer is not the first time students have been paid for classroom time, but could not provide details.
Gerren Price, the associate director of youth programs for the Department of Employment Services, said he believes this is a first-time program.

July 31st, 2012 at 10:39 amTalk about freakonomics! These future thugs (apparently they are already) will first of all learn that bribery is a viable subject to master. Maybe the only positive thing about the whole scam relates to their lower IQ. Blacks typically have poor consequential reasoning skill because of a shorter time horizon connected to their lower intelligence. Since the bribe money is up front in the present, this “carrot or stick approach” might help as it does to induce an ass to movement?

However, giving a reward BEFORE a desired behavior is called “bribery”. Referring to the process as an “incentive” does nothing to change what is happening – “incentives” are “bribes”. http://www.i2i-align.com/2010/06/are-incentives-bribes.html/ Too bad a board of ethics doesn’t exist to impeach these so-called educators from further corrupting what are already troubled young Blacks.
August 1st, 2012 at 10:28 amI sincerely doubt that there’s anyone in the D.C. school administration who can do the computations involving all those “icky” numbers. They’ll have to hire a white man or woman to do the arithmetic…
